Plaque growth in heart disease patients can be reversed with B vitamins that include B6, B12 and folate.
In the medical journal American Journal of Hypertension, the vitamin B therapy they used reduced the amount of Homocysteine, a toxic amino acid that circulates in each person's blood.
Homocysteine is a byproduct of digesting proteins. If your on a LoCarb/High Protein Diet you are producing a high level of homocysteine in your blood. This amino acid damages the inside of blood vessels, which causes hardening of the arteries and plaque buildup. Keep in mind you still have to watch cholesterol and diet.
The study concludes that in most cases a combination of Vitamin B6, B12 and folate reduces homocysteine to safe levels, restores the ability of blood vessels to dilate, and regresses arterial plaque.
Results of the study were determined by measuring plaques in the carotid arteries of vascular disease patients using ultrasound.
It is believed that the risk of developing heart disease from homocysteine is equal to the risks with cholesterol.
The report, published in the New England Journal of Medicine (Aug 28, 2002) concludes that the inexpensive trio of vitamins should be considered an adjunctive therapy for patients undergoing coronary angioplasty.
The homocysteine-lowering combination of vitamins, or a placebo, was administered to 553 patients for six months after successful coronary angioplasty.
"We've now shown that the vitamin combination didn't just delay the development of restenosis, it prevented it," said Guido Schnyder, one of the scientists who conducted the study. He said the trio of B vitamins decreased the need for repeat angioplasties or heart bypass operations by 38 percent.
205 patients who were given either the vitamin combination of folate (800 mcg), vitamin B12 (1000 mcg) and vitamin B6 (50 mg) or a placebo for six months.
During that period, the patients who took the vitamin combination showed a 48 percent reduction in the development of restenosis, or renarrowing of the vessel, compared to patients who received the placebo.
The foods we eat and even the supplements we take unfortunately do not keep up with our homocysteine output.
More than 90% of adults in America are believed to be at risk for heart disease. Medical researchers say unsafe levels homocysteine in the blood is a major risk factor for repeat heart attacks, restenosis, stroke and other vascular disorders.
What troubles medical experts is that those risks can be minimized by supplementing our daily diet with three B vitamins!
The first step toward moving your homocysteine level into the low-risk zone (below 6.3 micromoles/liter) is to take a high-absorption activated supplement to neutralize excess homocysteine. A recommended source for ingredients proven by medical research to reduce homocysteine levels, including a superior patented form of folate, is HS Fighters Active B Vitamins™ .
Give your body at least 60 days to respond to the HS Fighters Active B Vitamins™ then, the next time you visit your doctor, ask to have your homocysteine level tested.
If your homocysteine remains in the Risk Zone, continue taking the HS Fighters™ activated vitamin formula, but consider adding HS Fighters™ Boost with TMG to your nutritional regimen.
