Basic Ice Cream Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 cup whole milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt
Preparation
Coffee Cans:
One small 12oz and a Big 39 oz each with tight fitting lids and duct tape
1 part rock salt to 4 parts ice
Pour your favorite ice cream recipe into the one pound coffee can.
Place the lid on securely then put inside the larger can.
Add ice in alternating layers of ice and salt around the small can inside the large can.
When full put the lid on the large can and use add duct tape to secure it safely.
Place can on a sheet and let your party guests hold the four corners and roll the can back and forth for at least 20 minutes.
Open the cans and check the ice cream.
If it is not starting to freeze, replace lids and roll 10 minutes more.
If not thick enough you can put it in the freezer for 30 minutes or so.
Larger quantities:
5-gallon plastic bucket with lid (available at hardware stores)
a Big 39 oz coffee can
7 cups rock salt
3 6-lb. bags of ice
Baggie Method:
One pint-size zipper seal bag
One gallon-size zipper seal bag
1 part rock salt to 4 parts ice
Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
Put milk, cream, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
Place the small bag inside the large one and seal again carefully.
Shake until mixture is ice cream.
Wipe off top of small bag, then open carefully and enjoy!
